The graph below reveals the various influences on ORHAN's nature in relation to the percentage value of each element. These values were calculated according to the number of planets and the hierarchical position of each one (dominant, luminary, etc.). The basic personality tendencies as described here will no doubt be counteracted to some degree by the environmental, psychological, or emotional needs outlined in the next chapter. Nevertheless, they form the roots of his psyche, anchoring it as it grows and develops.

ORHAN's psyche follows an introverted flow. He knows himself, and attempts to develop his inner resources to their maximum potential.

Psychological Analysis

The following psychological study is a " blind " analysis which cannot take into consideration factors proper to ORHAN's social background or education. Nevertheless, it describes the basic structure and dynamic of his psyche as the result of an interplay of various influences; that is, without confining it to certain categories or arbitrarily putting a label on it. Certain contradictions may appear, but they are an integral part of the paradoxes and ambivalence of his nature. It is impossible for us to predict which tendency will win out: that will depend on ORHAN's decision.

Because he is sometimes overwhelmed by his emotional outbursts, he sometimes behaves in an erratic, impulsive, and unpredictable way; on the other hand, he may feel paralyzed and incapable of taking action. This dysfunction is produced by an opposition between his deepest desires and his sense of duty. It may be caused by the memory of a conflict with parental or academic authority in his formative years. Perhaps, in his adolescence, his teachers or other people with some power over him forced him to act against his will; or, on the other hand, they may have deprived him of the possibility of engaging in an activity which was crucial to him at the time. Because at one time the part of him which expresses desire instinctively and spontaneously, the libido, was defeated or contradicted by the paternal authority figure, his actions and emotional impulses may be ruled by his superego, or the inner image he has developed of the Law and the reality principle: his inner father. As a result, in situations which revive the old, unconscious injury, his energy may vanish; his powerful superego is also the reason why people sometimes criticize him for a lack of spontaneity. But they are mistaken. This complex may actually work towards a certain perfection in his activity in relation to the imperfections and ups and downs of reality. To become more conscious of the scope of the past conflict, ORHAN will have to engage in a careful, logical, and detached analysis of the relations he maintained with parental authority as an adolescent. Although he is fairly aggressive and authoritarian in the family circle, he sabotages his career plans completely, fleeing from professional responsibility and neglecting his ambitions. This attitude is liable to be a source of guilt, which tends to discredit him in his own eyes and inhibit his energy. To escape from this vicious cycle, he should realize that only foresight and careful reflection and planning will enable him to be effective and reach his goals.

Dominant Astrological Characteristics

Jupiter is the first dominant in ORHAN's astral chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this fact:

In traditional astrology, Jupiter has always been considered as the Great Benefactor, the planet of luck and success such as personal fortune, social prominence, professional prestige, high political position... The Jupiterian bounty is peerless! In psychological terms, this planet has a much vaster significance. As the biggest planet in the solar system, it does preside over the process of personal expansion, interpreted to be fitting into society better and finding an appropriate match between one's individual ambitions and the aspirations of the group. These growth is accompanied by a feeling of self-confidence, which, in turn, buoys up an even greater externalization and expansion of the ego. Hence the planet's flattering reputation. But this snowball effect (Jupiter smiles and the world smiles with him), in which social skills magnify confidence and boldness reaps many rewards, betrays the negative side of Jupiter: extreme and excess. Although grandeur was the characteristic of the " king of the gods ", errors of judgment, poor taste, and sometimes selfishness and pride are also likely to be part of the Jupiterian package. It is important to note that the extension of the ego may be a form of escape; it is tempting to hide behind one's popularity and social success, which are fairly easy to obtain, rather than be really demanding with oneself. The Jupiterian has a tendency to amplify his qualities out of compensation, to avoid seeing his weaknesses and flaws. As a result, he must be aware of the risk of over identifying with his social mask, which would cause him to neglect his inner self and deep nature.

Uranus is the second dominant in ORHAN's astral chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this fact:

This planet symbolizes the principle of independence and self-sufficiency, as well as a principle of transformation. Its most striking characteristic is distance from others: the Uranian strives to stand out from the herd, and distances himself from structuring influences like convention, tradition, etc. Although this need to free himself from the confines of convention, tradition, and family symbolizes an appeal for freedom and a desire to evolve beyond the bounds of physical limits towards a spiritual dimension, it may also correspond to a form of escape. This is why ORHAN sometimes needs to cut himself off from situations or relationships which feel stifling to him. His intense fear of being swallowed up psychologically causes him to react to certain emotional demands by making himself remote or running away. He needs a lot of space and frequent change. In a relationship, he is seeking a certain degree of intellectual excitement. Without it, he feels as though an unbearable, suffocating boredom sets in. By refusing certain concessions to convention which are practically inevitable, he may find himself in unpleasant situations. Finding an intelligent alternative to the routine set by the rigid forms of the past is extremely different from rebelling against any form of authority, in the settings of family, school, business, or society. One of the major problems ORHAN has to solve is how to wield his freedom, in his emotional relationships as well as his relationships with society.

Venus is the third dominant in ORHAN's astral chart. In the following paragraph, we shall indicate the significance of this fact:

In traditional astrology, Venus (or Aphrodite, her Greek name) is the planet of love. A source of universal attraction, this planet corresponds to the original urge which bonds two human beings together in love. Venus is thus both the magnetism which brings human beings together (not lust, which is symbolized by Mars, but the object which attracts lust) and the gift of love. This ambiguity is interpreted astrologically by the fact that Venus rules two houses of the Zodiac: in Taurus, Venus symbolizes the awakening to bodily lust, and in Libra, the bond of marriage. As a result, Venus may take on very different aspects depending on the individual's degree of awareness. Likewise, this ambiguity explains Aphrodite's equivocal conduct in Greek myth and her innumerable couplings and motherhood. Depending on the legend, she may embody brutal, passionate love (with Anteros), the wisdom of the heart which rescues from passion (Harmonia); she also becomes tenderness and purity (with Adonis), pure sexuality (with Eros), a transforming energy (with Vulcan), etc. Mistress of the Arts, she represents beauty, understanding, and peace. Psychologically, the individuals under the influence of Venus are struggling with their love instincts. This is why ORHAN cannot conceive of living without a personal emotional relationship to someone else and sometimes fears solitude and the encounter with himself. He is extremely attractive to others, and is a creator and artistic genius who seems to imbue all he touches with beauty and harmony. His artistic skills are obvious to the people around him, and may be applied to career endeavors. Pleasure, outings, seduction, love, and a thriving but sometimes superficial social life are the hallmarks of his life. Nevertheless, one day he will have to learn to give out of the goodness of his heart, and not as a means of seduction.

The Tenth House is an area of the sky which is especially important in ORHAN's theme, because it contains several planets, including the one which rules his Rising Sign. In the following paragraph, we shall explain the general meaning of this fact.

Traditionally, this part of the sky chart was related to profession, ambition, power, honors and recognition, and eminence. Metaphorically, it was also related to the Father, the Law, the spinal column, etc. The North Node, the gateway into the Tenth House, corresponds to the vertical line connecting the zenith to the nadir. The North Node can be opposed to its partner, the South Node, the lowest point on the map of the sky. As the highest point, it symbolizes the elevation of the individual, his social position. He is sure to derive some power from his social eminence, such as money, prestige, or privilege, but he also has duties to fulfill. When this area is the site of significant activity, it does not mean that the subject will automatically have a high social eminence. It means that he will invest a great deal of energy in acquiring a form of social power. Because the energy is somewhat vague, he will have to become aware of the various desires, needs, and ideals which are motivating and inspiring him. As a result, he will probably become conscious of how closely his social destiny is linked to his family's reputation. Indeed, all the individual can give society is what he has managed to make of himself from the raw material he received form his background. When the Tenth House is especially significant, it means that the use of power deriving from social rank is problematic for the subject. His attitude towards both accomplishment and failure may be somewhat obtuse. As a result, ORHAN should always be asking himself why he aspires to a certain career or profession, what his learning is worth, what meaning he wants to give his relationship with society, what he is ready to give of himself, and what he wants from society in exchange.

The Fourth House is an area of the sky which is especially important in ORHAN's theme. In the following paragraph, we shall explain the general meaning of this fact.

Traditionally, this house is associated with the home, family, inheritance, cultural heritage, traditions, the dwelling, the native land, etc. The South Node, one boundary of the Fourth House, corresponds to the vertical line connecting the Zenith to the Nadir. The polar opposite of the North Node, the highest point on the map of the sky, the South Node is the lowest and, as a result, symbolizes the individual's past; his foundation, sources, and inner self. Within the inner self, in the intimacy of the memory and the unconscious, the individual's family and ancestral past dwell concealed, mingled with the roots of his future development. Psychoanalytic theory demonstrates that an individual's future is determined by early childhood experiences. Astrology does not contradict this assumption, when it points to the Fourth House as the basis of any social or spiritual growth. The fact that this area is significant in ORHAN's chart means that he is seeking his personal center. He sometimes experiences a feeling of insecurity which inspires him to establish a stable foundation for his life. As a result, he may be reluctant to leave behind the psychic and material pattern he inherited from his biological family and lineage. Certain important crises in his life may be related to this emergence, this construction of a new home in the here-and-now. If he is able to perceive the hidden bond between his reluctance to assert himself as an individual and his roots in his family's past, he will be able to attain true stability.

Synthesis and Advice

Many people mistakenly believe that astrology is too deterministic. However, as even the ancients said, " The stars incline but do not determine. " In fact, the astral chart is evidence that each of us is accountable only to himself for his life and his destiny. Neither Heaven nor the occasional Hell of human contacts can be held responsible for the situation down here on Earth. Astrology shows us that life is what we make of it: all we really obtain is what we decide to accomplish ourselves, of our own volition.

If ORHAN really wants to improve and transform himself, the first step is to become aware of the weaknesses which may be holding him back and preventing his evolution:
- His excessive independence
- His fear of commitment
- His eccentricity
- His instability
- His fear of intimacy

ORHAN sometimes senses a conflict between his desire for social and professional success and his need for a stable, secure domestic life. He is deeply committed to both ideas, and does not always succeed in reconciling their schedules and demands on him. Sometimes it feels as though he will never be able to find a balance. However, no job promotion will really satisfy him if he has neglected his most intimate needs and desires. Although it sometimes seems easier to him to climb the rungs of the career ladder out there in the real world, if he merely sacrifices his domestic life, he is only trying to fool himself. He should accept the fact that his domestic life is the true basis and foundation of his development.
